Jeremy Keith’s latest article is something that anyone reading this will realise I liked, especially the bit I’ve bolded in this quote.

Luke has famously advocated a mobile first approach to web development, which is a great way of focusing on what’s most important to deliver to the user. But don’t take it too literally. In some ways it would be equally viable to try out “print-stylesheet first” or any other “non-desktop environment first” strategy. The key point is that you’re thinking about the content first and foremost:

I think the only reasons not to have your print stylesheet be your main stylesheet (on a text heavy site) are finding stuff & adverts. For example here’s a recent article on The Walrus about Nucleon Plants1 and here’s the print version. For just reading the article the print version is better in every way, no pagination, no adverts2, no comments & no UI cruft. The only thing that sucks is finding other stuff on the site from that view

That’s why I’ve done the next thing/last thing/search box on this version of the site. Not perfect but a decent step & I expect most readers would be coming from RSS or Google, so probably don’t care about the rest of the site. But I should probably rip off the hand picked top articles from adactio.com.

1 “Miss work? But my life would be nothing without the nucleon plant.”
2 Walrus is a non-profit so it would be polite to look at their ads

I’ve installed the WP-DBManager plugin, very usefully sends .zipped backups of your Database when you want.

And added WP Super Cache on the off chance I get fireballed

Best of all, I’ve simplified the design with v3 of my blog theme. The old version was much too busy.

This includes integrating every tweet I’ve ever done on every single pixel.

edit: damn, I’ve now tweeted so that joke no longer makes sense

Any number of things are wrong with the tory’s comically bad attempts to smear Gordon Brown, here’s a list:

There’s a lot of actual shit things about New Labour they could talk about (although to be fair to the tories most of these things are tory policy)

Making me think of Flash Gordon means I’ve got Queen and Brian Blessed stuck on a loop in my head, which is a good thing

Complaining that a union, which about 4% of voters are members of, has an unfair say in Labour policy, when you’re run by a 1 guy who’s a thieving billionaire scum bag who only cares about increasing his already obscene wealth, is a bit off.

Oh, and you fucked it up completely:

Congratulated themselves for doing a great job before the shit hit the fan (and even if it hadn’t there’s only 617 people signed up)

Didn’t understand how twitter, or html injection worked

Caused a funny graph to be made

and got a torygraph stooge to say it was teh hax0rs

The internet is great
